Jeopardy: Municipal Edition was a two live game events that took place September 22 and 23 and featured three Calgary mayoral candidates and three Ward 7 candidates.
Pixeltree designed and built a website to promote the event and app to control the game, including scoring, question select and display, and presentation screens for various stages of the evening.
Design
The original concept started as a vibrant 90s theme, similar to a slimy kids show. We needed to steer clear of colours that overlapped with party colours like blue, red, and orange. Purple and pinks became the primary palette with some darker tones to balance it out and some light touches of brighter neon as accents.
Eventually we opted for a more contemporary tone to give the event a little more perceived credibility to get audience “buy in”. This was based on feedback we received that for the first event, keeping it “professional” would attract more wanted attention.
Design 1 - A fun 90s vibrant theme where you might slimed for wrong answers. The idea was to have contestants wear 80s/90s apparel to make the event more fun versus just hosting a stuffy and forgettable debate.
Design 2 - We eventually went with a more contemporary/conservative theme to put certain folks at ease who are uncomfortable with fun and felt the event required a more mature tone to attract a wider audience. However, for the app design, we kept the vibrant palette.

Outcome
The Mayoral Edition occurred on September 22 and had 3 candidates while the Ward 7 Edition was the following evening with 4 candidates. The event attracted over 400 attendees and about 150 streaming viewers.
Other than technical issues with sound at Contemporary Calgary the events went smoothly.
